Bentota - One of Sri Lanka's premier beach resort towns featuring pristine golden sand beaches and calm turquoise waters perfect for swimming. The town is known for water sports, luxury resorts, and the scenic Bentota River that flows into the ocean.
Arrive at the airport and transfer to Bentota. Check into your hotel and spend the afternoon relaxing on the beach. In the evening, enjoy a sunset walk along the beach and fresh seafood at a beachfront restaurant.

Start your day with water sports activities on the Bentota River or beach. Options include jet skiing, banana boat rides, parasailing, windsurfing, and kayaking.
Madu River - A serene Ramsar Wetland ecosystem located 30 minutes south of Bentota, featuring mangrove forests with incredible biodiversity. The boat safari offers sightings of monitor lizards, water snakes, crocodiles, and over 300 plant species, with stops at island temples and cinnamon plantations.
In the afternoon, take a Madu River boat safari through mangrove forests. Visit a cinnamon plantation on an island to see traditional cinnamon processing, and stop at a small temple on another island.

Ambalangoda - A coastal town 20 km from Kosgoda, famous for traditional Sri Lankan mask carving and puppet making. The elaborate devil dance masks, kolam masks, and wooden puppets are used in Southern dance dramas, exorcism rituals, and theatrical performances, representing various characters from folklore.
Continue to Ambalangoda and visit a mask museum and workshop to see artisans creating colorful masks. You can purchase authentic handcrafted masks as souvenirs.
Afternoon: Hikkaduwa Coral Sanctuary
Hikkaduwa - A vibrant beach town 25 km from Ambalangoda, famous for its coral reefs and the Hikkaduwa Coral Sanctuary. The shallow, clear waters are perfect for snorkeling and spotting colorful tropical fish, sea turtles, and coral formations easily accessible from the beach.
Head to Hikkaduwa and take a glass-bottom boat ride or snorkel in the coral sanctuary. The reef is easily accessible from the beach, and you'll often see sea turtles swimming close to shore.
Evening: Arrival in Galle
Galle - A historic port city 20 km from Hikkaduwa, featuring the UNESCO World Heritage Site Galle Dutch Fort. Built by the Portuguese in 1588 and fortified by the Dutch in the 17th century, it's one of Asia's best-preserved colonial fortifications with cobblestone streets, ramparts, lighthouses, and a living community within its walls.

Morning & Afternoon: Galle Dutch Fort
Spend the morning exploring Galle Dutch Fort. Walk along the fort walls with stunning ocean views, visit the Galle Lighthouse (built in 1938), Dutch Reformed Church, National Maritime Museum, Clock Tower and Old Gate, and historic Meera Mosque. The fort area has a sophisticated, cosmopolitan atmosphere with numerous boutique shops, art galleries, cafes, and restaurants. Browse jewelry shops, visit gem museums, shop for handicrafts, and enjoy lunch at one of the many excellent restaurants.
Evening: Transfer to Mirissa
Mirissa - A beautiful crescent-shaped beach town 43 km from Galle, famous for golden sand, swaying palm trees, and being one of the best places in Sri Lanka for whale and dolphin watching (November to April). The beach offers a relaxed atmosphere perfect for swimming, sunbathing, and enjoying fresh seafood.
In the late afternoon, drive to Mirissa and check into your beachfront accommodation. Enjoy the evening at the beach, watch the sunset, and dine on fresh seafood.

Early Morning: Whale Watching
Start very early (around 6:00 AM) for a whale watching excursion from Mirissa harbor. The season runs from November to April, with best months being December to March. Mirissa is one of the best places in the world to see blue whales (the largest animals on Earth), sperm whales, Bryde's whales, fin whales, and playful pods of spinner dolphins. The 3-4 hour boat trip travels 10-15 km offshore where whales feed in the deep waters.
Afternoon: Hiriketiya Beach
Hiriketiya - A horseshoe-shaped bay 25 km east of Mirissa, recently becoming one of Sri Lanka's trendiest beach destinations. The protected bay offers perfect swimming conditions and consistent gentle waves ideal for beginner to intermediate surfers. The area has a laid-back, bohemian vibe with beachfront cafes, juice bars, and small guesthouses.
After returning from whale watching (around 11 AM), have lunch and then drive to Hiriketiya Bay. Enjoy surf lessons, bodyboarding, swimming in the calm clear waters, relaxing at beachfront cafes, and sunset watching.Accommodation: 1 night in Hiriketiya or nearby Dikwella

Yala National Park - Sri Lanka's most visited wildlife reserve and gateway accessed via Tissamaharama town. The park has one of the highest leopard densities in the world and covers diverse ecosystems including scrub jungle, grasslands, brackish lagoons, and sandy beaches. Wildlife includes Sri Lankan leopards, Asian elephants, sloth bears, spotted deer, wild buffalo, mugger crocodiles, peacocks, and over 200 bird species.
Drive east to Tissamaharama and check into your hotel. Relax during the hot afternoon hours. In the late afternoon (around 3:30 PM), embark on an evening safari in Yala National Park. The golden-hour evening safari offers the best chance of leopard sightings as they become more active. The landscape is dramatic with rocky outcrops and ancient Buddhist ruins scattered throughout the park.

Early Morning: Second Yala Safari

Late Morning/Afternoon: Drive to Colombo
After breakfast and checking out, begin the drive north to Colombo, Sri Lanka's commercial capital. The journey takes you through changing landscapes from arid zones to lush coastal areas. Arrive in Colombo in the late afternoon or early evening.
